“¿Eres preso de un muro o eres preso de aire?”

Teatro 24 traerá de vuelta La Razón Blindada, nuestro éxito de larga duración porque habla acerca de encontrar el coraje para enfrentarse a la opresión. No podría ser más oportuno que ahora.

Dos presos políticos, presionados por las circunstancias emocionales y físicas, se juntan todos los domingos al atardecer para contarse la historia de Don Quijote y Sancho Panza; lo hacen desde las limitaciones más extremas que supone el estar preso en una cárcel de alta seguridad o en un país cercado por murallas, pero también con la necesidad vital de contarse una historia que los salve, que los transporte a una aventura humana situada en la imaginación, ese lugar al que la realidad más extrema no puede llegar, lugar donde el dolor más extremo pueda ser mitigado por el acto de imaginar otra realidad. Así, reinventan continuamente a Don Quijote, ese caballero que confunde molinos con gigantes, mujeres grises con doncellas, cárceles con paraísos y que se exilia en la sinrazón, en ese extraño desorden que no hace mal a nadie pero que ayuda profundamente a vivir.

Esta obra galardonada fue la Producción del Año de Los Premios LA Weekly en el 2010. Desde entonces, ha tenido más de 200 funciones en gira por México, El Salvador, Ecuador y Colombia y algunas ciudades y universidades aquí en California y Arizona. La obra está protagonizada por los miembros del elenco original de nuestra producción de 2010, Jesús Castaños Chima y Tony Durán.

24Th Street Theater is bringing back our long-running hit La Razón Blindada (The Armored Reason), a play about finding the courage to stand up to oppression. It could not be more timely than it is today!

Two political prisoners, pressured by emotional and physical circumstances, meet every Sunday evening to tell each other the story of Don Quixote and Sancho Panza. They do so from the most extreme limitations of being imprisoned in a high-security prison or in a country surrounded by walls, but also with the vital need to tell each other a story that saves them, that transports them to a human adventure located in the imagination, that place that the most extreme reality cannot reach, a place where the most extreme pain can be mitigated by the act of imagining another reality. Thus, they continually reinvent Don Quixote, that knight who confuses windmills with giants, gray women with maidens, prisons with paradise, and who exiles himself in unreason, in that strange disorder that harms no one but profoundly helps us live.

This award-winning show was LA Weekly's Production of the Year in 2010. Since then it has had over 200 performances touring Mexico, El Salvador, Ecuador, Colombia and some cities and universities here in the US. The play stars the original cast members from our 2010 production, Jesús Castaños-Chima and Tony Duran.
