Module 4: Tell Your Story

Create Your Own Audio Drama

(60 min)

  • In small groups or as a class, select a scene from a familiar short story or narrative poem.

  • Using the AUDIO DRAMA student worksheet as a guide, determine key elements of your audio drama:

    • What is the theme of your story?

    • Who are the major characters? What do they want? What do they need?

    • Is there a narrator?

    • How will you communicate emotion using sounds, music, and dialogue?

    • Write a few lines of dialogue for two of your characters. *Remember that dialogue is a conversation, but also communicates needs, emotions, and moves the story forward.

    • What sound effects do you need?

    • What ambient sounds do you need to include to communicate the setting?

    • Will you include music? How do your music cues communicate mood or serve as transition within the scene?

  • Invite students to record and share their audio drama.
